I believe in God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, three in one, Trinitarian in nature, always present in heaven and earth. God created the world out of nothing, and continues to create and reveal Himself today. Creating humanity as the crown of His creation, God continually demonstrates His unconditional loving relationship with humanity. From Adam and Eve, continuing through the days of Abraham, and all time since, God seeks to live in a covenant relationship with His people. Despite God's continual efforts by God to love, humanity continues to show its depravity by not living completely, if at all, within God's initiated covenant.
As the ultimate sign of love for humanity, God Himself took on human flesh. Jesus Christ, Savior, Messiah, Lamb of God, fully God, fully human except without sin, came into the world proclaiming the Good News, declaring the Kingdom of God , humbly seeking to serve instead of being served. Christ's ultimate acts of love were His crucifixion and resurrection. Dieing for the sake of the sins of the world, humanity is saved once and for all from its sins. The opportunities to live as new creation, freed from the bondage of sin, secured in Christ's salvation, are made possible by Christ alone for any who will declare "Jesus is Lord!" As He was about to ascend into heaven Christ promised His followers that the Spirit would soon come and further prepare them for the responsibility of baptizing, preaching, and teaching all in His name. Christ promised He would come again once and for all to claim the world as His!
The Holy Spirit provides the sense of forgiveness that Christ provides (justification) and the means of fanning the flames of faith in the hearts of the elect to live in Christ as His people (sanctification). The Spirit calls the Christ's followers into a new community, the church. The Spirit illumines our hearts to a deeper understanding of Scripture, and helps us to understand as part of God's body the ways each have been gifted to serve Him through the church and are called to live in the grace Christ provides. The Spirit empowers the church to be beacons of hope, telling the Jesus story to the world through words and deeds.
Humanity finds itself loss without the love and grace of the Triune God. The human realization that all fall short of God's glory leads to a yearning to be in true relationship with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Christ seeks each to realize that human salvation is through Him alone. Acknowledging our sinful nature, depending upon the grace of Christ alone, we are charged to love as Christ loves us, spread this Good News, living lives worthy of the calling Christ has placed upon us. Living in Christ means dependence more each day on His grace and less and less on ourselves.
An important aspect of our journeys into Christ is Scripture. The Bible is God's infallible and breathed Word that teaches us the Christ story helping us to understand how we live the Christian life. The continual need for true relationship with Jesus Christ leads us into His Word. Scripture provides us the means of better understanding God's Story of love and the grace filled lives we are called to live in response to God's love that is beyond human comprehension.
